San Giovanni D’Asso is a charming little village which lies in the heart of the Crete Senese, the unique and spectacular countryside to the south of Siena. Villa La Macina is equally unique and provides the visitor with the perfect blend of classic Tuscan style, fabulous views and full immersion into the Italian luxurious lifestyle. Located in the heart of San Giovanni D'Asso the simple façade of the house hides the wonderful surprise of detail lying within.
Accommodation are spread over several levels and all look over the lovely garden. Walk into a welcoming foyer where you’ll find stairs leading up to the first floor and/or down to one of the two doors to the garden.
The entire house has been restored with great style and class with a balanced mix of antiques and comfort.
ACCOMMODATIONS
The spacious rooms have high ceilings, with windows overlooking the valley. It comprises a large foyer, from which you access the formal XIXth century gardens, two sitting-rooms, two dining-rooms, one of which leads out onto a large sunny terrace, with two dining tables, two umbrellas and chairs.
A fully equipped kitchen equipped with modern domestic appliances and cooking utensils (fridge-freezer, dish washer, washing machine, gas burners and convection oven). Four spacious bathrooms with showers, one bathroom with a half bathtub, plus an en-suite bathroom with shower for the single room. There are four double-bedrooms, three twin-bedded rooms and a single room; all of the bedrooms have ceiling fans or standing fans.
The Villa is elegantly furnished, with comfortable antique furniture throughout. There is a daily maid cleaning service, and all bed linen and towels (also for the swimming pool) are included.
La Macina can be rented together with La Capanna which is next door and joined by opening a common garden gate.
Garden
The garden is amazingly private, considering the house is in the middle of the village. The terrace overlooks the garden and pool and views beyond; from here steps lead down to the Italian gardens, complete with lemon trees and a pond.
The wonderful pool (12 x 6 sq. m.; 1.5 – 2.5m deep) is fully equipped with sun beds and there is a dedicated bathroom, cleverly placed in the original laundry room. There is also a fridge here (so you don’t have too far to go for a cool drink). Pool towels are provided.
Our housekeeper, is at your disposal upon request to barbecue in the garden for you and/or for pre-arrival villa stocking shopping.
Staying at La Macina is a real pleasure and we highly recommend it for large families and groups of friends looking for a special convenient location.

Location
San Giovanni D'Asso is a small village with approximately 300 inhabitants. The villa is situated in the upper part of the village - the "Borghetto", directly opposite the ancient castle, the origins of which date back to the XIIth century, and which is now the seat of the town hall. You can find two charming restaurants, coffee bar, pharmacy, bank, post office, supermarket (Coop), a sort of general store, butcher and a wine and cheese tasting spot right in town. Wednesday mornings host an open market along the main drag. In the village you can visit the beautiful XIVth century castle and the TRUFFLE MUSEUM, the charming tiny XIth century Romanesque church of San Pietro in Villore with its cript and “il Bosco della Ragnaia”. If you come in November you can participate in the fantastic white truffle festival.
There are public tennis courts in Torrenieri (8 km), the famous Monte Oliveto Abbey is just 7 km away, you can find a spa 18 km away in Bagno Vignoni, wine tasting areas in Montalcino (20 km) or near Siena; the beautiful village of Pienza is 20 km away, Siena is 40 km away; you need 2 hours to get to Florence and 2.5 hours to reach Rome. The VALDICHIANA OUTLET VILLAGE is half an hour driving from the house.
