Description

CASTELLO BOLGHERI - CASTAGNETO CARDUCCI

11 Bedrooms

Location and Surrounding Area
Located just a few kilometers from the sea, this magnificent castle is ideally located to explore the region’s cultural highlights and most spectacular natural wonders. Property 3726 is located in a corner of Tuscany known for its unique scenery, rich art and history, and local traditions: the heart of the northern Maremma. Here the hills of Livorno are topped with lovely villages, including Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri, both known for their excellent red wines.

The villa is a stone’s throw from Volterra, one of Tuscany’s most dramatic hilltop towns. Despite its many attractions, Volterra sees fewer tourists than other Tuscan towns, so you can expect to share its winding stone streets with locals and explore its ancient sites without crowds. Founded by the Etruscans and surrounded by medieval walls, Volterra has a notable historic center filled with fascinating Roman ruins, medieval buildings and alabaster workshops.

In one hour by car, you can reach Livorno, a quintessential port town with a colorful history and cosmopolitan heritage. Declared a free port in the 17th century, Livorno attracted traders from across the globe. The result was a city famed throughout Europe for its multiculturalism. Today its seafood is the best on the Tyrrhenian coast, its historic quarter threaded with Venetian-style canals is full of character, and its elegant belle époque buildings offer evocative reminders of a prosperous past.

The villa is also a few kilometers from San Gimignano, one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Italy. From afar, San Gimignano looks like a town from a Renaissance painting: a circle of 13th-century walls enclosing tall, teetering stone towers. Its towers make it instantly recognizable, but the art treasures held within its walls are just as remarkable. Although the town is small, there is enough art, architecture and fine food to keep you busy for more than one day.

In one hour by car, you can easily reach the town of Pisa, exceptionally well-known for its Leaning Tower. Moving between its alleys and riversides you will discover architectural jewels such as Santa Maria della Spina, the headquarters of the Scuola Normale Superiore in Piazza dei Cavalieri, the exhibitions of Palazzo Blu and the magnetic charm of Piazza dei Miracoli. Start from the Baptistery and head to the 130-meter Camposanto Monumentale overlooking the square.

Property 3726 is 82 km from Pisa Galileo Galilei International Airport, 135 km from Florence Amerigo Vespucci International Airport, 225 km from Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport and 260 km from Rome Leonardo da Vinci International Airport. Volterra is 50 km from the property, Livorno is 61 km, San Gimignano is 81 km, Pisa is 86 km, Grosseto is 88 km, Viareggio is 103 km, Lucca is 107 km, Camaiore is 112 km, Forte dei Marmi is 115 km, Carrara is 136 km, , Florence is 142 km, and Siena is 155 km.

The Property
Set on seven hectares of grounds where guests can relax in the shade of the gazebo after a dip in the outdoor semi-Olympic pool, Castello di Bolgheri is a magnificent property just a few kilometers from the sea. The designer interiors, created by the Spanish architect Julio Lafuente, are crafted down to the smallest detail. With an exceptional location and elegant garden with plenty of space, Castello di Bolgheri can accommodate up to 23 guests in 11 bedrooms (9 double bedrooms, 1 twin room and 1 triple room).

Surrounded by greenery, the Castello di Bolgheri was the historic residence of a noble family. The external walls, private chapel, and watchtower all date to the 10th century, and have been carefully restored, together with the castle interiors, to create an exclusive retreat for a relaxing and elegant Tuscan holiday. The impeccable architecture and design at Castello di Bolgheri make it the perfect venue for unforgettable events. This elegant property boasts an exclusive outdoor area and the atmosphere of a traditional Tuscan castle.

Surrounded by an elegant garden, this magnificent property boasts a semi-Olympic swimming pool and a generous paved poolside area furnished with sun loungers inviting guests to sit back and unwind. Offering a tranquil atmosphere, the poolside area represents an idyllic spot for basking in the sun and enjoying wonderful moments of relaxation. The outdoor area also features a splendid pergola with lounge area and a generous terrace, perfect for al fresco dining under the shade of a pergola.

Just adjacent is the castle’s own medieval church, the marble-lined swimming pool with tented lounging area, a tennis court and yoga pavilion. The house is fully staffed. The staff includes a cook, available to prepare guests’ meals in authentic Italian home-style. During summer, dining is often outdoors, barbecue-style: hundreds of candles light the terraces and a wood-burning pizza oven yields the finest Italian pizza and bread. Daytime meals can also be taken under the tent at poolside, or with a picnic at the seaside hut.

A grand entrance displays the family’s coat of arms, carefully restored medieval stonework and a seemingly floating stone staircase. Continuing into the house, the main drawing room has massive-timbered beams and wonderful views of the countryside, the sea and the nearby island of Elba. On the main floor are also a sitting room, a library with a collection of fine literature and art books, and a study. Downstairs, the dining room seats up to 18 at a grand round table, and there is a separate breakfast room, kitchen, and playroom.

The décor uses an imaginative combination of valuable antiques and contemporary pieces. The bedrooms, decorated in neutral and warm colors, welcome guests in an intimate atmosphere. The property can sleep up to twenty-three guests in eleven bedrooms: nine double bedrooms, one twin room, one triple room. In all eleven bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom, sheets are of the finest linen and bathrooms are spacious and use lovely local marbles.
