Villa rentals in Liguria - Portofino - Property 189882

Property 189882

Liguria - Portofino

A spectacular land of mountains descending sharply to the sea. Mountains and cliffs that seem to rise directly out of the Ligurian Sea, in the far northern reaches of the Mediterranean. This is the dominant landscape of Liguria, fascinating and breathtaking, which induces an intensity of emotions and sensations in the visitor that will never leave during a tour through this region, so full of historic memories and a dynamic and severe (the mythical Genoese thrift) participation in the modern world.

Description

Property 189882 – Portofino – Ligurian Coast

6 Bedrooms – Pool

Property 189882 caters to a more discerning guest looking for privacy and seclusion in this glamorous location with all the luxuries of stylishly comfortable living at your fingertips.

Location and Surrounding Area. Property 189882 is one of the most prestigious estates in the area and is set on large grounds just above Portofino. It's prominent position on the cliff top enjoys views that extend right along the Ligurian coastline as far as Chiavari and Lavagna to the south. The villa is within easy walking distance of the town and has its own private lift set into the rocks.

Evocative Portofino is synonymous with la dolce vita of celebrity lifestyles and has attracted the rich, famous and artistically minded for decades. It is full of designer boutiques and an evening aperitif in the main piazza by the harbour is a must for the well-heeled. Fine wining and dining is guaranteed and the town has plenty of excellent bars and restaurants serving the traditional Portofino lasagna, focaccia breads and the locally made Giancu de Purtufin wine.

The coastline of the Cinque Terre is a dramatic display of rugged cliffs and five multicoloured villages perched and nestled on the precipices by the sea. The whole area is more or less a car free zone (but well connected with trains and ferries), which makes for spectacular walking in an unpolluted environment made up of magnificently terraced olive groves and vineyards. Legend has it that the houses are all painted different colours to enable the fishermen at sea to easily recognise their own home.

The city of Genoa boasts the raucous past found in many ports around the world.  Genoa is affectionately known as La Superba, the Proud One and quite rightly so. Part of the old town, with its amazing labyrinth of narrow streets and unexpected piazzas, is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Seafaring Christopher Columbus was born here, as was the architect Renzo Piano. In fact, it was Renzo Piano who designed the complete restoration of the old port and transformed it into the area it is today; bursting with life, museums and various other attractions. It is the perfect place for taking a gentle stroll down to see the yachts or just to sit down and listen to the folk musicians busking in the Genoese dialect.

Property 189882 is two and a half hours by car from Malpensa international airport, 45 minutes to Genova international airport and two hours to Pisa international airport. The city of Milan is only a couple of hours away and it is 35 km to Genova and about 70 km to the Cinque Terre National Park. It is a five minute walk to Portofino from the private lift or otherwise a pleasant 20 minute walk along the mountain path.

The Property. Property 189882 and its glorious, mature, landscaped gardens and terraces are a joy to behold. The villa faces east and benefits from the early morning light whereas the swimming pool faces southwest for magnificent sunset swims and poolside aperitifs.

The property sleeps up to 12 guests in six double/twin bedrooms on the top floor, each with en suite bathroom. One of the bedrooms contains an extra single child's bed. The bedrooms are all light, spacious, beautifully decorated with quality furniture and have exceptional views. Two of the bedrooms also have access out onto a large, secluded terrace.

The large entrance hall on the ground floor leads into a vast living area with panoramic views. Perhaps the main feature of the living room are the beautiful, glazed archways leading out onto the gardens and which bathe the room in soft, natural light. The décor and furnishings throughout the villa are of quietly understated, classical beauty and the terracotta floors, wooden shutters, white walls and wood beamed ceilings combine to create a homely feel. The studio, dining room and an extra bathroom are on the ground floor. There is also a lift that gives access to all three floors.

The kitchen area, pantry, laundry rooms and staff quarters are all on the lower ground floor. Property 189882 comes with its own chef, butler, two housekeepers and team of gardeners who all work tirelessly to maintain the property in perfect condition.

The idyllic gardens are designed to relax and refresh the senses. There are five charmingly different dining terraces to choose from and numerous shady corners and seating areas for curling up with a good book. The infinity swimming pool is cleverly designed to follow the contours of the cliff and overlooks the sea. Otherwise, the property has semi-private access (shared with only one other villa) to a small rocky beach below for leaping into the sea or simply sunbathing as you listen to the waves lapping next to you.
