Description

Property 189036 – Furore – Amalfi Coast

5 Bedrooms – Pool

Location and Surrounding Area. Located near the heart of Furore, this carefully-restored five-bedroom villa is the perfect place for a stylish break on one of the most celebrated stretches of coastline in the Mediterranean. With a spectacular cliff-top setting facing the sea, it is no wonder the Amalfi Coast is a must-visit destination on everyone's bucket list. Furore is a little-known destination on the Amalfi Coast, between Amalfi and Positano. The village has a population of around 800, spread out over a vertical stretch of hillside high above the sparkling Mediterranean.

The oldest part of Furore is at sea-level, where the Borgo, a cluster of old fishermen's houses, appears to be glued to the cliffs. The main tourist attraction is the dramatic Fiordo, a high gorge cutting inland from the sea. An old lime kiln has been converted into a bar and gift shop, the old houses have been renovated, and a museum tells of the industrial heritage and botanical diversity of the fiord. Furore is a good base for Amalfi Coast walks, whether you fancy pleasant strolls or a serious trek along the famous Sentiero degli Dei.

Conca dei Marini is a pearl on the Amalfi Coast amongst scented lemon orchards and flamboyant flowers. Less renowned than the nearby Amalfi, Ravello and Positano, this tiny town has impeccably preserved the old charm of a fishing village, with white houses tucked into the rock, like precious stones in a sculpted setting. It first made headlines in 1962, as Jacqueline Kennedy, on holiday with her children in Ravello, would depart from Conca dei Marini’s port for waterskiing trips with the Agnelli family.

Maiori's wide stretch of beach that covers about a kilometer of coastline in fine and large-grain sand is the town's top attraction, making it a lively and popular destination. The Amalfi Coast does not have many sandy beaches: the coastline is instead home to countless tiny coves lined with rocks or small beaches with pebbles worn smooth by the waves. The main seafront beach was formed as a result of the catastrophic floods of 1954 which destroyed the historic center and is located next to the rebuilt modern center.

With a seeming maze of streets and staircases, Amalfi is a town best explored on foot. While Piazza Duomo and the main street are home to most of the town’s shops and restaurants, do spend some time wandering and exploring the quieter side streets, where you will find arched passageways, hidden gardens and tiny piazzas. Sitting high in the hills above Amalfi, Ravello is famous for its ravishing gardens and stupendous views, the best in the world according to former resident Gore Vidal.

Despite its mountainside setting, Praiano has always had a strong connection with the sea. Its ancient name likely derives from the Latin for “open sea” because the town sits on a cape along the Amalfi Coast. The town has long been known for fishing, including the production of nets, and later coral fishing. Evidence of the fishing tradition can be seen at the Marina di Praia beach, which is often covered with small wooden boats and heaps of fishing cages and nets.
